And Now for Something Completely Different…

By Craig Macklin

Frequent readers of this blog (don’t be scared to raise your hand and comment, by the way…) may remember a post about unique applications of industrial vibrators in 2013.  Well, this week we had a new inquiry from a drop-by guest that is in the running for 2014.

I had the pleasure of receiving and talking with Mr. Addi Somekh here at 2828 Clinton Ave on Wednesday.  Addi is a balloon artist.  Aside from his fantastic balloon sculpture and art, Addi also uses balloons for music, playing his own creation of the balloon bass.  He has been experimenting with adding external vibration to his balloon base in order to create new elements of sound.  Check out his videos, which are quite fascinating.  For those of us in the industrial vibration world, what is interesting to see is the effects of different vibrator and different frequencies to create very different sounds.  Just like different frequencies of our vibrators have different applications on materials (ie – high frequency vibration sometimes packs powder material and sometimes fluidized it, depending on material properties.  Low frequency does well for chunky materials).

This is not your everyday use of industrial vibrators, but I had to mention it.  We had a fun time working with some of our vibrators in the lab, in particular our CVT-P-1 at high and low frequencies.  I hope Addi can find a place for what we offer in his art and we can have him back to Cleveland soon!!
