Industrial Vibration and Rock and Roll: Another Combination That’s Shaking Things Up!

By CVC Team

Drugs, Sex, Rock and Roll and Industrial Vibrators!  Well maybe not, how about pharmaceuticals, we still don’t make “those” kinds of vibrators, Rock and Roll and Industrial Vibrators.  The common factor in this list is the application of vibration to accomplish a specific goal.  As some folks that read these blogs might have noticed I’ve stated my interest  in building acoustic guitars, in comes the rock and roll part, and as I state in my bio, “It’s still all about vibration, just strings and wood and not bulk material”.

Guitar building is an interesting adventure, the more I read and build the more the road twists and turns.  I happened to innocently stumble down this path when my son off handedly asked me if I thought we could repaint his Strat.  Well, since then it’s gone from building electrics to building acoustics.  In both groups vibration of the strings and the support structure is critical. For many builders the goal seems to be to duplicate the sound and tone of what many consider the Holy Grail of acoustic guitars, “Pre-war Martins.”   Part of the “magic” of these instruments is the materials used, building process at the time and the natural “aging” of the instrument.   Aging as I understand, it is a combination of changes in the wood and the changes in the structure due to the vibration introduced by the strings.  Read More…

Industrial Vibration to Unstick Things

By Craig Macklin

Many applications of industrial vibrators are for material flow in hoppers, bins, chutes, and pipes; or material settling and de-airing. However, we frequently come across customers that don’t work with dry bulk materials or wet cast product. Instead, they are looking to apply vibration to their process to “un-stick” their wet, sticky materials from the walls of their equipment.

If we relate this to an everyday experience, picture-grabbing ice cubes from the freezer for your glass of lemonade. You get a clump of them that bonded, and they won’t fit in your glass. So, what do you do? Apply a little energy to them with some impact force (bang them on the counter) and break those bonds. Cold lemonade success!

When a Show Sample Vibrator Turns Into a Main Line Product

By CVC Team

When I first started at Cleveland Vibrator in ’68, we had an “Oldtimer” by the name of  Richard Placek who worked here and eventually retired from Cleveland Vibrator after over 40 years of loyal service. Rich was in charge of our tool and die area and among his many responsibilities was to build jigs and fixtures to assist in producing our many vibratory products. Along with that responsibility, Rich would  work with our local pattern maker and make any final adjustments to our mostly wooden pattern equipment before sending it on to the foundry for producing sample castings. Rich Placek was indeed a very valuable part of the organization. Back then, trade shows were very important to attend and exhibit our products produced and sold by Cleveland Vibrator. Rich came up with an ideal to make-up some small keychain vibrator blanks and hand out to interested visitors at our industrial shows. Our customers liked the small key chain type units and comments were made about turning them into working models. Of course this was music to Mr. Placek’s ears and he started working on a Cleveland Vibrator miniature vibrator. It actually turned out to be the very first prototype Vibra-Mite Vibrator which is now our primary line of vibrators, VM-25s in particular. Read More…

Cleveland Vibrator Co. Collaborates with Crystal Instruments to Produce New & Advanced Vibratory Data

By CVC Team

Vibrator performance, force output, frequency, energy consumption and noise, all parameters that are of interest to our customer to some degree or another.  At one end the spectrum we might have a plant maintenance supervisor who simply needs a vibrator as a flow aid on a hopper and isn’t particularly interested in the exact operating frequency and force output of the unit, just needs something that works, solves the problem.  On the other end of the customer range is the user who wants to know force and energy consumption at a specific frequency.  Vibrator sizing on hoppers as a flow aid is driven by the physical characteristics of the hopper and the material stored in that hopper. Vibrators Don’t Damage Equipment, Wrong Installations Do

By Craig Macklin
Sterling Systems micro ingredient batching systems-closeup

Recently, I took a whirlwind trip through the heartland. During this trip, I had the opportunity to visit plants and equipment makers installing and using vibrators. While in the field, I encountered damaged equipment, including cracked hopper walls that had to be re-welded.

Too often, the vibrator gets a bad rap in these situations. However, in reality, the damage is a function of incorrect sizing or installation of the vibrator. So to clear up any misconceptions, here are three easy recommendations to prevent future equipment damage:

Cleveland Vibrator Co. Showcases New Vacuum Mounted Vibrator Series

By CVC Team

Vaccum Mount Series explains features and what sets Cleveland Vibrator above the rest – See it in action here!

Most everyone over, say, 25, knows that time seems to escape you way faster than you’d like. That certainly happens here at Cleveland Vibrator – you turn around and another year or two is gone and you wonder what the heck happen to it. I really felt that way here recently as we just finished up work on a new product.  Sales has been pushing for a “Vacuum Mounted Vibrator Series” for a while now and I’m happy to say we’ve just completed work on the mount and controls for our 1200 VMSAC, air -cushioned piston vibrator and the smaller 1125 VMSAC.

Are You Afraid to Ask About Sizing Industrial Vibrators for Bins or Hoppers?

By Jack Steinbuch

I’ve been told that my last blog regarding the importance of wall thickness when utilizing external industrial vibrators for bins or hoppers seems to have struck a chord.  I plan to expand on that blog by providing some recommendations for sizing external vibrators since I merely referred to a vibrator with proper force previously – and you just may have been afraid to ask!

Essentially, we need to apply enough external force to the wall of the bin or hopper to assist gravity in getting material to flow.  While I previously stressed properly flexing of the wall to get the material to flow, we still need to determine the correct amount of force to apply based on the configuration of the hopper as well as the bulk density and flowability of the material. Best of 2013: Most Unique Vibrator Applications

By Craig Macklin
“If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.”
― Nikola Tesla
As we are coming up on the anniversary of his death (January 7, 1943), this post will honor a man who came up with some of the most unique application of vibration for his time, Nikola Tesla.  His creation of the “Earthquake Machine” and use of vibratory tables to relieve Samuel Clemens from constipation (It’s true. I read it on the internet.), will be hard to match innovations.  However, on reflecting on 2013, I want to quickly highlight two of our customer’s applications of our vibrators that stood out as unique and noteworthy: Read More…

Preventing Carpal Tunnel with Single Impact Air Knockers

By CVC Team

We were recently asked by one of our foundry customers to quote our 1200 SI Air Knockers to replace hammers used by his employees to beat on the side of casting forms in order to free the casting from the mold. Because of the current process, they currently have two employees on workman’s compensation with carpal tunnel problems related to using hammers to loosen the castings. With the SI series developed to replace such manual processes, we can mount the vibrator on the mold and control the number of hits per minute plus control the force of the impact that the piston strikes the mold with our timer and five port spool valve set up.  This simple solution can not only save the health of the employees, but also thousands of dollars in lost time and claims.  If you have a manual process requiring employees to use hammers to dislodge material from molds, bins, hoppers or chutes, contact us to see if we can help.
