In light of this week’s Thanksgiving Holiday, I thought I would take a minute to share a few thoughts with our loyal movers and shakers.

Personally, this past year has given me many blessings to be thankful for (i.e. graduating from Akron, getting engaged and moving into the next chapter of life) but I truly believe that being given the opportunity to work for Cleveland Vibrator was the beginning of the “good vibe train” life has thrown my way. Over the span of one short year, I have gained so much from coming to work day in and day out here at Cleveland Vibrator. Railcar unloading can be a difficult task depending contributing factors such as the type of material, size, moisture content, if the material is frozen, or if it was compacted during shipment, just to name a few. Add to the fact the weather could change from transportation to delivery point, this creates an interesting sizing situation. At Cleveland Vibrator, we use our 1350 VMRR Vibrator as the “one size fits all” unit for rail car unloading. We realize that at times, our valued customers may require a vibrator or vibrators with a little more or less force and may even require a unit that operates at a lower noise level. Cleveland Vibrator understands our customer needs may have  changed from what was used ten, twenty or thirty years ago.  Tried and true methods of that era may need to be changed to accommodate new rail car designs.

In the past, most rail cars were steel and fitted with dove tailed female brackets either at the factory or in the field to accept the male wedge type railcar vibrators. This is still one of the preferred way to vibrate material out of rail cars even today. Read More…

One of the perks about working for The Cleveland Vibrator Company when you’re a history geek like me, is digging through the archives and learning the rich history of your product development over the past century. Recently, I was able to get my hands on case histories dating back to the 1960s and came across one that highlighted our first-ever “Portable Air Piston Vibrator.” Nearly 50 years ago, Cleveland Vibrator assisted a precast concrete manufacturer when they wished to improve the consolidation and finish of their product using vibration. We specially designed a 1-1/4″ Piston Vibrator and attached it to a pistol-grip handle. The handle had been equipped with a special thumb grip trigger that activated the vibration and this piece of vibratory equipment weighed only 10 lbs. This light-weight and portable option gave the manufacturer the power to apply vibration to problem-child areas within their production, leaving the application locations completely limitless. I have said for years to my “better half”, you can never have enough “toys” especially as it pertains to tools and for sure in my case golf clubs. This can be said about a recent spray dryer hopper application. We normally mount one industrial vibrator to the side of a hopper or bin and sometimes two by placing the second vibrator 180 degrees apart from the first vibrator installation area. In rare cases, we will actually mount three vibrators 120 degrees apart. The spray dryer customer wanted to mount five of our 1125 SI Single Impact Air Knockers on one hopper to dislodge sticky material. Not only did they want to mount five vibrators, but they also wanted them to impact at the same time. So, the folks of Cleveland Vibrator got creative.  Read More…

There are a wide variety of screening media that can be installed in vibratory screeners.  Our challenge is to select which type would be best suited for your application.  You can refer back to my blog: Importance of screening data from May 2013 to review the technical data that would best assist us in making screener recommendations.  Some of this data would also be appropriate for selecting screening media. This blog is the first in a series that will be dedicated to typical screening media that are installed in Vibratory Screeners with their advantages and disadvantages so you can be in a better position to assist us in the selection process.

Woven Wire Cloth

Guilty Until Proven Innocent… Why Cleveland Vibrator’s Repair Services Prove to be Top Notch

When you supply a product that is the main drive source for a particular piece of equipment it, usually takes the first blame when the equipment doesn’t function properly. Such was the case back in July when one of our larger O.E.M. customers (Original Equipment Manufacturers) contacted us on a drive failure problem experienced by one of their customers who mine gold in Canada. The Rotary Electric Drives were mounted on a dewatering screener and per the end user customer they have experienced failure of 4 to 5 vibrator motors since May and normally they last for years. With Cleveland Vibrator on the nameplate of the vibrators, it was understandable the customer would look to Cleveland Vibrator for answers plus bear blame for their problems.

They contacted the O.E.M. who in turn called us to asked if we would call them directly. We followed up the same day and discovered with our initial conversation the motors were over 12 years old. This is a long time for a vibratory motor to last in this type of operation. Read More…

Firestone & Cleveland Vibrator Team Up to Showcase at Pack Expo 2014

Back in the spring of 1996 I was finishing up work on my engineering degree, had interviewed with The Cleveland Vibrator Company and had accepted their offer of employment.  My start date was in June, but first things first, I needed to finish up the degree and then get to work.  Sometime after accepting the job, Glen Roberts, my future boss, had gotten the idea that it might be beneficial for me and the company for me to spend the day in Chicago walking the Bulk and Powder Show.   This would give me a quick overview of the industry.   I think this was the second time I’d ever attended any type of trade show and the first for me when I knew I’d be involved with the industry targeted by the show.  Since then I’ve been fortunate to work a number of shows, Bulk and Powder, Foundry, World of Concrete, Interphex, NPE – Plastics showcase and the Pack Expo.  The Cleveland Vibrator has products in all these industries, both equipment and individual vibrators.  Again, that diversity of customers and applications is what helps keep it interesting and “entertaining” here at Cleveland Vibrator.

If you are familiar with ultrasonic sieving and have concerns over contamination of your product then this blog will grab your attention. Recently, one of our customers approached us with a difficult request. They needed to have an ultrasonic screener that consisted of 100% stainless steel contact parts.  A traditional screener consisting of all stainless steel contact parts did not produce the yield and throughput needed for their process and inquired about providing a screener with ultrasonics. This request included the screen frame and the sieving surface (wire mesh) had to be free of any adhesives, etc.

Since our standard ultrasonic frames are machined aluminum this posed a challenge for us. Although we have tried making stainless steel screen frames in the past, the density of the stainless gave us some issues in transmitting out ultrasonics through the frame and across the screen surface.
